Residential family ladder R-1 → R-10 mixes lot-size encoding (R-1 6,000 sf, R-1A 8,400 sf, R-7 20,000 sf, R-6 1 acre, R-9 2 acres, R-8 4 acres) with density-by-suffix (R-2A larger lot, R-2D, R-2M mixed, R-3 / R-4 multifamily) and Alpine/Slope geomorphology suffix (R-10). Numeric ordering does NOT correspond to lot size monotonically. Commercial B-1A → B-1B → B-3 is an intensity ladder. Downtown DT-1/DT-2/DT-3 standards are 'RESERVED' in Table 21.06-2 — district-specific standards live in chapter 21.11 (Downtown). The municipality is a unified borough (Anchorage Municipality has no separate county); Title 21 chapters 21.09 (Girdwood) and 21.10 (Chugiak-Eagle River) supply their own dimensional tables for those community council areas.
