Quirks & watch-items

Quirks & watch-items
  • Never say "IBC 2024" for California — correct label is "2025 CBC based on 2024 IBC with CA amendments"
  • California uses UMC/UPC (Uniform codes) for mechanical and plumbing, not IMC/IPC
  • CA Energy Code (Part 6) is its own system, not based on IECC — significantly more aggressive
  • CALGreen (Part 11) is mandatory, not voluntary — unique nationally
  • Triennial cycle: next edition will be 2028 Title 24
  • SF does not adopt the California Residential Code (CRC/Part 2.5)
  • Previous edition was 2022 Title 24 (based on 2021 IBC, effective Jan 1, 2023)
