Quirks & watch-items
Quirks & watch-items
- Vermont uses NFPA 1 (Fire Code) and NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code), not IFC. The Vermont Fire and Building Safety Code (VFBSC) is the consolidated state code.
- VFBSC 2025 effective 2025-11-04 — replaced 2015 VFBSC.
- Energy codes (RBES residential / CBES commercial) are administered separately by the Department of Public Service. RBES 2024 is based on 2015 IECC language plus efficiency requirements from 2018, 2021, and select 2024 IECC; treated as 2021-IECC-equivalent for ICC mapping purposes.
- Vermont allows compliance with either 2020 RBES (incl. 2020 Stretch Code) or 2024 RBES for projects commenced on/after 2024-07-01.
