Drinking Fountains

You're placing a drinking fountain in a corridor and the ADA reviewers will measure four things: spout height, knee clearance, clear floor space, and alcove depth. Get any one wrong and the fountain fails accessibility review. This configurator lets you set those dimensions and shows pass/fail against ADA Standards §602 in real time. Use it to verify your fountain spec and placement before you submit for plan review.

Purpose: reveals how fountain type and size affect ADA clearances and alcove requirements.

Recommended rim heights: 40″ for adults, 30″ for children, and 36″ max spout outlet for accessible units. Hi-Lo units pair an adult fountain at ~39″ with an accessible basin at 32–34″. Floor-mounted units that project more than 4″ past 27″ above finish floor are a cane-detection hazard under ADA.

Power requirements are typically 110/115/230V, 50–60 cycle, single phase AC. Consult local codes for minimum number of drinking fountains required — it's usually tied to occupant load.

Next improvement: The likeliest next improvement is adding the hi-lo pair configuration — the required dual-height installation with a bottle filler, showing combined clearance envelope and cane detection.

Future: Restroom Clearance Configurator — toilet, lavatory, and grab bar placement with turning radius and transfer space, from ADA Standards §603–604 and ICC A117.1.

Future: Ramp & Landing Configurator — slope, run length, landing size, and handrail extensions for accessible ramps, from ADA Standards §405 and ICC A117.1.
