Air Distribution System Selector

You're choosing an air distribution topology early in design and there are six standard systems — each with different duct sizes, pressure requirements, zone capabilities, and energy profiles. This selector lets you set your project constraints and shows which systems qualify, so you don't commit to a single-duct system when your program needs simultaneous heating and cooling. Use it before you lay out the mechanical room.

Purpose: reveals which air distribution system your constraints actually select — and why the cheap one usually can't do what you need.

Next improvement: The likeliest next improvement is adding duct sizing for the selected system — main trunk and branch dimensions at your CFM, from ASHRAE and SMACNA duct design tables.

Future: Diffuser Layout Configurator — supply diffuser type, throw distance, and spacing for a given ceiling height and cooling load, from ASHRAE Chapter 20 and manufacturer performance data.

Future: Exhaust System Selector — restroom, kitchen, and parking garage exhaust rates, fan sizing, and duct routing constraints, from IMC Chapter 4 and ASHRAE 62.1.
